SALVATION OH HAPPY DAY Echoes in the church As I make my way from the back pew. Red carpet adorns the floor to the alter, Inviting men to pray, women to cry, and children to sing songs of joy. Songs of “joy” to a god they have never seen. 20 pews forward, I walk. 15 to go, I press. 200 behind me, I stop. As I walked to the front, all eyes were upon me “Who does he think he is?” they ask. “Doesn’t he know he doesn’t belong?” they exclaim. “God does not hear his evil voice,” they whisper. The music stops, and silence echoes in my mind. As God makes His Way to me. Red swollen eyes look to heaven, Inviting friends to rejoice, demons to wail, and angels to sing songs of joy. Songs of joy to a God they DO see. The alter is before me. I kneel. The cross hangs above me. I cry. The Spirit envelops my soul. I pray. As I focus, God’s eyes are upon me. “Are you there God?” I ask. “Did you really have to die for me?” I exclaim. “Thank you for listening,” I whisper. A red soaked cross adorns a hill, Inviting soldiers to laugh, friends to weep, and disciples to hide songs of joy. Songs of joy to a God they have seen. The Truth is revealed to me. I accept. The air is filled with forgiveness. I inhale. The blood covers me. I live. As He walked the road, all eyes were upon Him. “Who does he think he is?” they asked. “Doesn’t he know he doesn’t belong?” they exclaimed. “God does not hear his evil voice,” they whispered.
